يعد التوسع العمراني ضرورة حتمية في جميع التجمعات السكانية، فإما أن يستمر بصفة منتظمة وموجّهة، وإما أن يختار الطريق العشوائي، ودراسة عوائق التوسع العمراني وتحديدها هو للتوصل إلى إيجاد منافذ واتّجاهات للتوسّع المستقبلي والتي من شأنها فكّ الخناق عن المدينة واستمرار نموّها بطريقة سليمة ومتجانسة، وهذا ما نحاوله بحثه في مدينة الكوفة . وعليه تتمثل المشكلة بطرح التساؤل الآتي : ما هي محاور توسع النمو العمراني في مدينة الكوفة ؟ وقد اعتمد البحث على المنهج الوصفي ، فضلاً عن استخدام المنهج التحليلي . ومن اهم النتائج التي توصل اليها البحث : عدم مراعاة الضوابط والمحددات الجغرافية في وضع التصاميم الاساس والخطط الهيكلية. فضلاً عن وجود العديد من المعوقات الطبيعية والبشرية والإدارية التي تقف عائقاً أمام النمو المكاني لتوسع المدينة . كما ان لضعف الإستثمار في جميع القطاعات وعلى كل القطاعات وبالاخص قطاع السكن والسياحة الطبيعية والتركز على السياحة الدينية فقط اثرا على تحديد اتجاهات توسع نمو مدينة الكوفة.

Abstract:
Urban expansion is an inevitable necessity in all population centers. It can either continue in a regular and directed manner, or it can take a random path. Studying and identifying the obstacles to urban expansion helps us find outlets and directions for future expansion, which will relieve the city's pressure and allow it to continue its growth in a healthy and harmonious manner. This is what we are attempting to research in the city of Kufa. Accordingly, the problem is represented by posing the following question: What are the axes of urban growth expansion in the city of Kufa? The research relied on the descriptive approach, in addition to using the analytical approach. Among the most important findings of the research are: a failure to take into account geographical controls and determinants in developing basic designs and structural plans. In addition, there are numerous natural, human, and administrative obstacles that hinder the spatial growth of the city. Furthermore, the weak investment in all sectors, especially the housing and natural tourism sectors, and the focus on religious tourism alone, have had an impact on determining the directions of Kufa's growth expansion.
